Edward Quinn tells us that while in the south of France he had the opportunity to photograph Picasso at a ceramics exhibition in Vallauris. Picasso liked the photos and allowed him to photograph him at his home, and even while he was working in his studio. In 1949, with the help of Suzanne and Georges Ramié, a couple of potters in whose workshop, Madoura, he had learned to make ceramics, Picasso rented spacious warehouses on the outskirts of the village that belonged to an old distillery known as Fournas.
