Descripción

The main motif on the poster, which features a text written by Picasso, is a lithograph entitled “The Blue Dove”, which he made on 28 December 1961. From the beginning, Picasso intended this print as a symbol to be used to announce the Congress of the Peace Movement to be held on 10 and 11 March 1969 in Issy-Les-Moulineaux, France.

Picasso once again depicts a dove, this time holding an olive branch in its beak, like an allegorical dream of peace. The dove is drawn by Picasso with subtle, flowing lines that simultaneously give the bird a sense of volume and grace. In this way, Picasso attempted to convey values such as truth, honesty and love.

The dove depicted on this poster is drawn with simple strokes and is extremely attractive, hence its enthusiastic popular acceptance (it also recalls the artist’s childhood, when his cousins would ask him, while they were playing, to draw animals and people, and demand that he do it in a single, uninterrupted stroke. Then, the figures would come out of the pencil or from his hands, while he drew them or cut them out with scissors to the joy and amazement of his cousins).
