Descripción

This poster was printed in two runs for the same exhibition at the Beyeler Gallery; one corresponds to the poster described here and is distinguished from the other by the fact that it does not contain the phrase “Bemalte Linos” in the text.

With great freedom, Picasso presents us with a hieratic, almost Egyptian Jacqueline. Her hair, straight nose and large eyes are emphasised by well-defined lines. Jacqueline’s gaze speaks of a not-too-distant future of loneliness and anguish. She expresses a contained but evident sadness.

On this occasion, the master did not resort to distortion to obtain greater expressiveness. He took advantage of the method of combining lines in certain areas to define the hair, the other features and the background of the painting where a window appears. To all this he added touches of blue, yellow and red.
