Descripción

This poster was reproduced twice: once for the exhibition at the Galerie Beyeler in November 1966, with the text “Galerie Beyeler”, and again for the exhibition on Picasso at the Juan March Foundation, held in Madrid from September to November 1977.

According to Pierre Daix, the work reproduced on the poster is most likely from the period when Picasso was working on “Les Demoiselles d’Avignon”, and was possibly made in the second stage of the work, when Picasso painted the final version. Daix stresses the considerable importance of Picasso’s output in the spring and summer of 1907. It was then that he painted “Bust of a Woman with Raised Hands”, “Bust of a Woman with a Large Ear” and “Head and Shoulders of a Sailor”: “These paintings demonstrate a prodigious liberation of painting, literally day by day, without the slightest interruption, burning through all the stages to create paroxysms never before achieved, or even imagined.”
