  • Descripción

This painting is in the Museum of Modern Art in New York (MoMA). The subject of this work has been reproduced five times. The image was originally conceived as a scene in a brothel, with seven characters, a medical student, a sailor and five women. The latter remained as the only witnesses of its original conception, together with a table with slices of watermelon and wine, placed in the centre of the composition. The male characters disappeared. The brothel was located in Barcelona, on Avignon Street, and not in the French city of the same name.
