Descripción
These prints are characterised by the vegetal forms that he uses in all of them to represent his female companion.
In the first version, a simple, bare white line on a majestic black background reflects the main features of Françoise’s face and bust, achieving a spectral effect. In the second version, the description of the subject is expanded but the chromatic effects are modified in such a way that the white lines disappear, merging into a large white surface with black shading, although the bust was defined by a wavy black line.
In the fourth and fifth versions, he introduces two changes to his double-face system, in profile and from the front, marked by the nose, and the bust appears similar to an elongated horizontal heart. The sixth and final change is achieved through the use of wavy calligraphic lines applied to the hair and body, but the face is still shown in a classical style and the gaze is similar to that of the third version.
In this third version, reproduced on the poster, Picasso defines the hair and bust through the use of lines that display a strong vegetal symbolism, and frames Françoise’s distinguished face and her serious, luminous eyes in a modernist style.
