Descripción
. This drawing was made by Picasso in the spring of 1906. It was last seen at the Galerie Louise Leiris in Paris.
Neither this poster nor its motif has been reproduced on any other posters.
This poster was made for the exhibition of drawings (1903-1907) organised by the Galerie Berggruen & Cie. in memory of Gertrude Stein. The main motif is a drawing made by Picasso in the town of Gosol in the spring and summer of 1906. This drawing was first exhibited at the Galerie Berggruen & Cie. in Paris in 1954, although it is believed to be in the collection of the Galerie Louise Leiris.
In this drawing the outlines of the figures are shaded in certain areas to accentuate them and make them stand out against the clean white background. The woman drying herself in profile is Fernande, the painter’s travelling companion and the model for his most important subjects. The other figure, the child, a charming baby, looks calmly at his mother. Picasso used the drawing of a child as a study for a later work entitled “Naked Child,” which he painted shortly after returning to Paris in the autumn of that same year.
