Neither this poster nor its motif have been reproduced on other posters. Print number 42 from the “Suite 347”, reproduced on the poster, presents us with one of the brilliant works of this series created by Picasso in aquatint and drypoint.
With an incredible ease in the mastery of the stroke, the master created a beautiful white, almost ghostly image on a black background. On a circus scene, a clown is seen, a horsewoman frozen in the saddle of the horse, holding a ball in her hands, while on the far right, jugglers perform a performance with a chair. Wonderful stains that acquire corporeality and movement through the creative rhythm of Picasso’s hand.
Life and death. Strength and sensitivity. Rhythm and torpor. Characteristics of the circus show inside and out. Aspects that always affected Picasso’s intellect and feelings.
