Descripción

From the trip he brought back as a gift for Françoise a coat that he liked because of its embroidery and its colours (red, blue and yellow). This typically Polish garment was a narrow-waisted brown fur coat. Both the trip and his participation in the Congress were unusual for Picasso, who did not like to attend such events abroad. And especially because at that time Françoise was expecting a child who would become the daughter so beloved by both: Paloma.

‘Woman in an Armchair, No. 1’, the engraving reproduced on the poster, is one of two versions of the portrait of Françoise. The first six states of the first drawing, which underwent eight changes, are quite similar to the five states of the second version. However, the last two states of the first drawing, due to significant retouching, are markedly different. The final versions of both compositions bear the additional subtitle “Coat from Poland”.
