Description

This lithograph was specially drawn by the Master for a poster advertising the World Congress for Disarmament and Peace, which was to be held in Moscow in 1962. The event was attended by delegations from one hundred and sixteen countries. Eight thousand posters were printed in German, Arabic, Spanish, French, English and Russian, which were distributed and exhibited throughout the world. In some countries of the Eastern bloc, such as Bulgaria, more copies were printed in addition to the official ones.

The drawing of a dove with an olive branch in its beak is the main theme of the poster. The dove flies with outstretched wings above a bonfire of broken weapons, symbolizing war. The dove, like the Phoenix, is reborn from the still smoking ruins and flies to bring a message of peace and hope.
