Description

In the print he used lithographic charcoal on tracing paper applied to stone. The print run was 50 copies, numbered and signed, with some additional artist’s proofs.

Neither this poster nor its motif has been reproduced in any other posters.

The lithograph of the poster “Portrait of a Woman II” is a portrait of Jacqueline in which Picasso abandons his classical style simply to reexamine the sculptural style. It gives the impression of having been carved in wood with defined cuts and angles indicating the features of the face, and the hair appears to be shaded, as if held in place by a hairnet. This is a unique work that he made, along with three other prints, between late 1955 and early 1956, after a long break from his lithographic work. In the fourth print of this group, Picasso made another similar sculptural design, but this time Jacqueline appears full-length.

The way Picasso portrays her draws attention to the severity of this portrait in contrast to the previous ones in which she appears more adorable.
